Guitar Hero

Here's the cake I made for my nephew's 10th birthday. This one took the longest of all of them (it was all the little details in fondant--I mean, those little silver screws and stuff are painted fondant) but it was the most fun.
I broke into my craft supplies to find beading wire for the strings, which, I think really sent it over the edge. It was a hit!

And--I've started a blog for just my cakes & cookies and things. I only put it up last night, so I have some tweaking to do to it. But if you want to check it out, go here:

crack.me.up.

If you haven't gone to the little links I've provided for you over there under "Places I Like On The Clickyweb" then you're missing out. Because this was just on Dwight's Blog:

The mighty octopus should be respected, not depicted as some horrible marine rapist. If you need to demonize a sea creature, make it the horrendous jellyfish, which provides not jelly but dangerous stings. I found out firsthand when I was taken to a beach on the shores of North Carolina in my youth. I have yet to return to an ocean beach.

Fabulous.

I'm not sure I have to explain why I love this picture...but I will.

1.) Carrot Top is FO.REAL. a glorious circus sideshow all by himself.
2.) Add that to the ridiculous expression his date has on her face (can't you just hear her?..."Wha--ohmygod! Is that Ryan Seacrest?!") and you get nothing but 100% spectacular.

Good morning, my little slut-muffins.

The big news for today...

I haven't been to the eye doctor since 2001.

I squint ALL the time...even on the rare occasions I wear my glasses.

I just made an appointment for an eye exam on Thursday after work. I'm a). nervous--because they do all that weird stuff to your eyeballs and b.) excited--because I can't wait to get some hot, fun, new glasses (since mine are stinking 8 years old).

Um. That's it for now.

While we're talking heels...

This is why Carly needs $995.
Oh.my.word.

EDIT:
And double yoi on the BACKS of them!

You had me at hello...

Says Mrs. Bend-it-like-Beckham:

“I just can't concentrate in flats,” she explained during the second installment of her GMTV interview today.
Still, she says she occasionally comes back down to earth. "When I'm at home with David and the kids I'm always in flip flops," she says.

Those happen to be my exact shoe habits. Heels. Or flips. Me & Mrs. Posh would so be BFF.

Things I don't understand...

1.) These:

They're press-on TOENAILS. I have nothing against acrylic nails--I have them, but toenails? Seriously. I have reasons that I get my nails done...what possible reason could you have for needing stronger, longer toenails? I tend to want to avoid that.

2.) These:

I have no words.

3.) I don't have a picture for this one (I tried, but the car was too far away). Here's what happened--I was driving to work this morning and got stuck behind a car that had an Invisible Fence bumper sticker on it. Like, the Invisible Fence you get for your dog. And I thought--"Really? You feel so strongly about The Invisible Fence that you found it necessary to put a bumper sticker on your Camry?"

Sisters, sisters...

It's my big sister's birthday today!
Alli's always looked out for me--from keeping my secrets, to sharing her clothes--I couldn't have asked for a better sister.
The following song is from her favorite movie-White Christmas...which just so happens to be about a pair of beautiful sisters. So, in honor of my favorite (even if she is my only) sister-here's our song:

Sisters, sisters-
there were never such devoted sisters.
Never had to have a chaperone-no sir,
I'm there to keep my eye on her!
Caring, sharing-
every little thing that we are wearing.
When a certain gentleman arrived from Rome,
she wore the dress, and I stayed home!
All kinds of weather-
we stick together.
The same in the rain and sun-
two different faces, but in tight places,
we think and we act as one.
Those who've seen us-
know that not a thing could come between us.
Many men have tried to split us up,
but no one can!
Lord help the mister,
who comes between me and my sister-
And lord help the sister,
who comes between me and my man!

PS. The couch in that pic is rockin', no?

And now something completely different...

First of all, let me say that I'm not an NBA fan. I'm aware of a little of the goings on--but only because I love Ellis Cannon and listen to him on my commute home. And on the commute into work, I've become a fan of First Team on Fox and Dan Patrick.

That being said, my friend Jess is married to a Cleveland boy--so, Dan is a Browns/Indians/Cavs fan to the very core of his being. Having to live in Pittsburgh is pretty much his idea of purgatory. Well, he sent this article to her today and she forwarded it to me. Having rage issues ourselves, we've decided that we each need to make our own version of 'TheBron's Angry Meter.'

Even if you aren't into it all, it's a really funny read and worthy of a link. Check it:
The Optimist.

The Easy Button of poetry.

So, I was looking through some documents on my computer today and I stumbled across this little gem (see below). I have no idea when I wrote it, or more importantly, why I wrote it, or hell...even if I wrote it. But I liked it.

Force-fed by envy,
washed down with resentment.
I’ve resigned myself to a mediocre fate.
This empty belly wants its fill
of something that resembles normal.
I swore I wouldn’t give you my words again-
but here I am,
choking on them.

(Please disregard the dust on my entertainment center. I swear I'm cleaning this weekend.)

No way...

Yeah. It just happened AGAIN.

3 empty stalls. She chose the one next to me.

What.the.crap.

My PSA

Today, I was peeing and I was in the last of four bathroom stalls. Someone comes in and enters the stall directly next to me, with blatant disregard for the rules. You're not allowed to do that! Bathroom etiquette dictates that the only time you're ever allowed to enter the stall next to an already occupied stall, is if there is nowhere else to go. I thought everyone knew this.

You want me to break this down for you? Excellent. I have a visual aid:

This has turned out to be a shitty, shitty day.

Who wants to buy me this wonderfully fabulous Charm City Cakes apron?

It can be all mine for only 25 of your dollars.

Louie.

My brother and sister-in-law (Jordan and Melissa) got their "baby" about a year ago--he's this hunk of a Boxer who is all muscle. His name is Lou and he's awesome.

Saturday, my dad was over and we were doing some yard work when Jordan showed up with Louie to let him run around a little in my backyard. Lou gets REAL excited around people and he was going nuts, running in circles and panting like a wild man. So, I went inside, got him a bowl of water and brought it out. He starts drinking and will.not.stop. Jordan's trying to get it away from him so he doesn't throw up (Lou, not Jordan) and he puts the bowl up on the railing of my porch.

Lou's no dummy. And entirely too big to try to pull something like that off. As evidenced by the following picture:

Hot tamale.

Our department always has a fun little Cinco de Mayo celebration and guess what everyone wanted me to bring...caaaaaaaake.

I was going to do a sombrero. And then I thought about a pinata, but honestly, wanted to do something a little simpler. I went with a chili pepper.

It's a three-layer white cake with white icing (a coworker got to pick the flavor since she helped me out last week with a ridiculous problem customer) and that stem was a bia to get attached. The end.

Tag--I'm it...

1. What was I doing ten years ago?
Just finishing up my first year as a Resident Director and living in Beaver Falls. Wait. That was 10 years ago? Oh hell.

CORRECTION: Apparently, my hesitation was warranted. As my lovely college roomie Nancy, pointed out--in May of '08 I was, in fact, an RA, living in the basement of Young East, wondering if I was going to actually graduate because I didn't have enough Chapel credits. Heck yes.

2. 5 things on my "to do" list:
  • Find jobs/send resumes.
  • Get a hair cut.
  • Repot the plants on my desk (I haven't killed them, they're actually getting BIGGER!).
  • TiVo "So You Think You Can Dance?" (Shaddup.)
  • Quit my job.

3. Snacks I enjoy:

  • Granola bars.
  • Sourdough pretzels.
  • Bananas and peanut butter.
  • Apples and peanut butter.
  • Skinny Cow Ice Cream Sandwiches.
  • And...ok, I can eat BAGS of Twizzlers.

4. Five things I'd do if I were a billionaire:

  • Pay off my and any family members' existing debt.
  • Buy my parents' a gorgeous beach house in North Carolina.
  • Buy myself a gorgeous beach house...somewhere.
  • Hire a personal trainer/cook.
  • Quit my job.

5. My 5 bad habits: (Only 5?)

  • Interrupting.
  • My road rage.
  • Eating when I'm stressed.
  • Taking for-EVER to get ready in the morning.
  • Saying I'm going to quit my job but then not.

6. Places I've lived:

  • Delmont, PA
  • Ontario, CA
  • Milwaukee, WI
  • Beaver Falls, PA
  • Pittsburgh, PA (Bellevue, Bloomfield & Brighton Heights)
  • Latrobe, PA

7. Five jobs I've had:

  • Counter girl/waitress-Mrs. Berta's Pizza (Ick. That was short-lived).
  • Sales clerk-Gene & Boots Candies.
  • Resident Director.
  • Assistant Director of Student Activities.
  • Trained monkey/wage slave.

Who wants to be tagged? Anyone? I think you should do it. Yeah, you.

Cake eater.

Tonight is our girls night (yay!). And my dear friend Erin's birthday was on Saturday, but we're going to celebrate it tonight.

So I made her this cake.

It was my first attempt at a fondant bow. I don't mind telling you I'm a little in love with it.
